Boothby Wildland is Nattergal’s first Wildland, covering 617 hectares of former agricultural land in Lincolnshire. Since work began in 2022, the site has been transitioning away from arable farming and is being restored as a dynamic mosaic of habitats through the recovery of natural processes. Early interventions have included river restoration, blocking drainage ditches to re-wet the landscape, creating ponds, spreading green hay and using ‘rough and loose’ techniques to create more structural diversity. These measures are helping to establish species-rich grasslands, expand woodland and restore wetland habitats, while allowing natural regeneration to shape the landscape over time. In February 2026, beavers were introduced into a 200-hectare enclosure, helping to hold more water across the site and further restore natural hydrological processes, with the potential to reduce flood risk downstream. The project is focused on long-term ecological recovery, creating a more resilient landscape for wildlife while also providing opportunities for people to connect with nature.
