Wetland / Woodland and scrub / Private project
Project details
Nature restoration project on predominantly arable farm. Extensive areas of woodland have been planted and wetlands restored and created. The site includes sections of Keal Carr SSSI and borders a Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Reserve. Flower-rich grasslands and scrub are being encouraged on former intensive arable land to create a mosaic of habitats.
Rewilding approach Natural colonisation is being allowed in certain areas combined with seeding/planting to kickstart nature restoration. Cattle grazing is being reintroduced alongside traditional hay cuts. Numerous ponds and scrapes have been created to allow water to naturally collect. Part of the scheme includes creation of priority wet woodland habitat through natural colonisation from the adjacent SSSI.
