Project details
A community forestry project at Casthorpe Hills, encompassing Pancake Hill and Casthorpe Covert, focused on the long-term stewardship and sustainable management of 6ha of native woodland. Selective thinning, coppicing and new planting are being used to diversify the woodland’s age structure and tree species, while opening up the canopy in places to encourage a richer woodland-floor community and natural regeneration.
Deadwood is being retained and added in the form of habitat piles and dead hedges, alongside wildlife boxes and other habitat features. New trees are also being planted to strengthen connections between existing areas of woodland, creating a more varied and resilient landscape for wildlife.
